What Type Of Wood Is Used For Children's Wooden Toys
At All Circles, we use specific materials for our wooden toys to ensure quality, longevity, and technology fit.
Baltic Birch
Not all wood is created equal for wood toys. The majority of our wooden toys are made with high end grade Baltic Birch plywood. This material is sourced from the Baltics of northern Europe, and the Baltic Sea. Baltic Birch is a very lightweight, but strong material and can be cut perfectly using our CNC, while maintaining its shape and strength.
Advantages of Baltic Birch
-
highly technical properties,
-
high wear resistance,
-
excellent resistance to chemical and other aggressive environmental properties.
-
Stability of board's geometry.
-
Optimal ratio of weight to strength.
-
Light weight
-
Durable and crack resistant
-
Warp resistance
-
Highest quality plywood (low number of voids throughout layers)
-
Finish and beauty (takes finishing materials well, and looks beautiful)
Baltic Birch Plywood is made by gluing together a multiple plies of birch veneer. There is always an odd number of veneers and each ply is at a right angle to the one below, which gives the material superior stability and strength. The type of glue and the thickness of plywood determine the suitability of a sheet for a particular application.
Canadian Hardwoods : Maple, Walnut and Oak
All Circles furniture and toys also use Canadian hardwoods, such as Maple, Walnut and Oak for our ladder rungs, and safety bars. These hardwoods are doweled to perfection and then drilled into the engrain to ensure proper fitting of our fasteners.
Around The World
A large variety of wood is used around the globe for wood toys. Depending on the use, design and longevity needed, a wood species and variety would be chosen. We've chosen the wood materials that best suit our play design.
As we develop and design new toys, we are always conscious to use locally sourced and sustainably sourced materials, while ensuring the highest quality product and design ascetic for our children and yours.
